In the heart of St. Mary, Jamaica, a dream was born — a dream cherished by Captain Beth Powell's mother. It was a dream that her three daughters would embrace education, break barriers, and soar to new heights on the way to a brighter future.
Imagine completing high school at 16, taking your first solo flight, and earning a private pilot license at 17 — this is the extraordinary journey of Captain Beth Powell, who defied expectations and earned her commercial license at the young age of 18. At 21, Captain Powell was hired by American Eagle and became the second black Female Captain at the airline on both the ATR42/72 and EMB. In 2014, her dream reached new heights when she joined American Airlines as a First Officer on the B737 — a monumental achievement celebrated by both Powell and her late mother.
Behind every triumph was the unwavering support and inspiration of Captain Powell's mother. Her belief in dreaming big and achieving goals fueled Captain Powell's success, and in honor of this incredible woman, Captain Powell initiated the scholarship in 2015, with a mission to mentor and support students in aviation. This scholarship is more than a fund; it is a legacy — a testament to the enduring impact of a mother's love and encouragement.
Now, we invite you to be a part of this journey.
This scholarship aims to raise $10,000 to support aspiring aviators. Your contribution, no matter the size, is a step towards a future where dreams know no bounds. Let's break barriers and redefine what's possible — together.
